-Ohaneze where is your own newspaper?
-We need to create an Igbo language curriculum that focuses less on tests or exams and more on actually getting the students to practice reading and writing Igbo every day for half an hour or an hour.
-When I was a primary school student, so groups of children will do reading presentations or each child will be called upon to write an Igbo proverb in Igbo.
The same curriculum will be sent to schools in the diaspora. We are even supposed to have Igbo schools in the diaspora including Lagos where Igbo children will attend but knowing some of our people, once they hear Igbo school they’ll refuse to send their children there but once they hear British international school or Turkish international school, that is exactly where they’ll send their children. If the child gets there and a white child calls him a monkey, they’ll cry about racism.
Finally, Igbo school children should be allowed to learn other subjects in Igbo. If our academics taught us Maths, Physics, Biology and other science subjects in Igbo, many more children will be able to learn it quicker and become more interested in these important subjects.
You think the Chinese or Indians learn Maths in English? No, they learn in Mandarin and Hindi and they’ll beat most English children and all Nigerian children in a maths quiz.
Chinese scientists has even successfully cloned a monkey recently, Indian has nuclear weapons (although a world without such weapons is safer but its a sign of technological know how), China has already entered the space age with their own space program. In our case we were fined for speaking ‘vernacular’ in class, the vernacular in question is Asusu Igbo. And we think we have sense!?
